Nicely done, Kyle. Thanks so much for fixing this for Feisty and to
everyone else who contributed to resolving this issue - especially
Tormod, of course, who did all the heavy lifting.

PCI-E cards don't have an AGP option. The AGP 2x, 4x, 8x option is for

Ericw, thank you. Another workaround found and hopefully one that will
help move us forward in nailing the root of the bug down and patching it
up.
Tormod, what do you think?

Daniel, I believe William means changing your AGP card to x4 in your
bios, instead of x8. I won't be home until tomorrow, so can't test
this yet, but I will the first chance I get.
But, I do remember that with a very early version of Fedora, the only
way I could boot in to the installed version
It's odd that no fix or workaround for this bug has been released yet,
given its serious nature. I would have assumed that the Edgy DVD
Release would have, at minimum, addressed a Vesa workaround so users
could, at least, boot in to the Live Desktop under the Safe Graphics
mode. Disappointing.

Glad to see that headway is being made on this bug, thanks to
Bytebugger, Tormod and many other posters.

For what it's worth, I noticed that a number of reports, including mine,
were loading Edgy 386 CDs on AMD64 systems. So, to rule that out

see if I would experience the identical bug.
I did.

Please note this bug is specific to the Live CD. It appears some people
are posting bugs about installed versions of Edgy. A signature of this
bug is you can't access the Live Desktop on boot that would allow you to
install and you can't access console in order to change drivers.

Tollef, have tried changing the boot parameters to get rid of splash.
Hasn't helped. If you provide a specific boot parameter line/example,
that might help. But, all my efforts to change boot parameters and
remove the splash failed.

Install 6:10 Failure: Black screen at Live Desktop Stage
Slogger, I seem to be experiencing both issues.
1) I see the flashing cursor in top left for a brief moment.
2) I then move in to dead black screen.
Can't confirm if I actually go in to the system and just can't see it,
as I don't hear any sounds.
Seems to be a number of us who having AMD64,

Slogger, I am also AGP graphics and have update the big report to
reflect this. You tease out a good point that people need to list when
they post their specs.
I just tried out your commands. No dice. This is what happens:

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart
Then ctrl+alt+f7 to go back to GDM
