I can confirm this too, new install, constantly crashes trying to do any
simple tasks with an image. Doesn't seem to matter what the size of an
image is.
Big question, is this going to be fixed? We been including Pinta in our
imaged OS build for 2 1/2 years. It's simple, powerful and easy to
saying that files are already contained in a different package.
If you really want to use the PPA, deinstal TeXstudio first, then
install the version from the PPA.
This is not a bug in the TeXstudio package contained in Ubuntu.

Upgrading the BIOS to 1.6 does indeed seem to fix the problem.
At least it is now allowing me to boot into live mode. It's taking a
while, but is has gone past the kernel panic I was seeing earlier.

It's mostly fixed. Occasionally, a bunch of button or gesture spazzes
can bring up Caribou, but in general, it's fixed. I couldn't reproduce
the flukey times where Caribou pops up. When I just touch the
touchscreen, Caribou doesn't pop up anymore.
