On Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) I used Brother's amd64 deb package for
brscan2 but it didn't work due to a library path bug:

Bug is still present in Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin). The package requires
foomatic-db but it is not included as a dependency.
