OK - for some reason, nv can recognize my screen a lot better now than when I upgraded to herd 5. WIth the sync lines HASHED I get lots of resolutions (plus the undesireable virtual screen size of 1280x1024) In System - Preferences - Screen Resolution with NO sync values, my choices are these:

I'm fairly certain this is a duplicate of some other bug - other people seem to be compianing, but it seems to affect some cd drves more than others. I get this when I try to mount /dev/sdb mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb, missing codepage or other error
