We might still be looking at different bugs here. For me (on a system
with Radeon 7200), the lockups were happening quite often (most sessions
within a few minutes), but disabling DRI did fix the problem entirely.
No lockups at all after disabling DRI (for a few months).

I can confirm that it's possible to reset/crash etc during a breezy to
dapper upgrade and still have the system think that it's been upgraded.
Only afterwards is it evident that some steps were not completed.

After selecting an application, click on Apply it install the selection
but clicking on OK redo the same operation and it never ends, so closing
the window is necessary to conclude the operation with the consequent
discarding the changes is necessary.

A netboot install of Kubuntu Edgy installs Dapper.
The ISO was from http://people.ubuntu.com/~cjwatson/bzr/debian-
cd/ubuntu/data/edgy/preseed/kubuntu/kubuntu.seed
the boot command used was
linux
For Edgy we have moved to Orca, and any fixes here would not apply to
gnopernicus nor be backported to dapper.

With beta candidate CD:
* boot on the CD
* press F2
* pick french
* press enter to boot from the CD then
The desktopCD has an USA keymap (according to the GNOME applet), from
the xorg.conf:
Option XkbLayout us
Option XkbOptionslv3:ralt_switch
$ cat
I'm using a recent edgy-installation, so kernel-version is now
2.6.17-10-generic and the problem still exists.

Some information, I forgot: once the timezone selection appeared, I just
clicked next, because the information was correct. Then the back and
next buttons gray out, I can click everything else (cancel, choose
timezone, or select a city, even the zooming on the map works), but the
back and next
Note: I end up with Ubuntu Dapper, not Kubuntu
