I have also experienced this crash. While trying to find the right
device, I selected ALSA and tested it which produced no sound, then I
selected VIA 8237 (one of two in the list), hit test again and it
crashed.
The crash report took nearly an hour to build at which point I had

proprietary driver) instead of the opensource driver (ati), there's not

Sorry, I spoke too soon. I had been using PyDev + Eclipse for awhile

As of Feisty Herd 4 this still doesn't work. However after some hdc
interrupt lost errors (hdc is the dvd drive) it dumps into an initrd
console session. Never seen that before.

a new version of Pydev, which does not require that horrible 1.4 java
backport patch. So this could probably help. However, I am not sure,

I changed /etc/init.d/casper near the bottom, /live_media, to /cdrom and
it did in fact eject the cd.
Of course this is CD Live so I'd have to make the change on every boot.

Ubuntu can see Win XP SP2 share fine but Win XP SP2 can not see Samba share!
XP network WORKGROUP neighbourhood correctly shows Ubuntu PC as a peer member
but when I click on it to see the share all I get is a Windows login in
challenge window.
I tried to use herd-4 and it still failed, IIRC. I went back to herd-3
and hacked around a bit and found that the problem is with initramfs-
tools. There are three distinct issues I found with herd-3:
1) The firmware is not in /lib/firmware or /lib/`uname -r`/firmware.

high rank of TlwgMono font in fontconfig matching. That makes Thai text
