Setting the monitor sync ranges did nothing. What did work was deleting
the xorg.conf file and letting X regenerate it. After that, the screen

Thorsten, does cdrecord work properly? In my case, cdrecord works but
CD-Creator does not.
My read of the hal code is that it is at the mercy of the drive firmware
(or device driver). It performs no added value other than issueing the
ioctl and mapping the content appropriately.

Again, I am unable to determine any package as the source for

I experienced the exact same problem. A recent fresh install of Edgy Eft
Kubuntu resulted in days of frustration trying to use the Print Manager,
CUPS (localhost:631), foomatic-gui, and anything else I could think of
to get printing to Letter.

I'm on a Sony Vaio VGN-FS550 notebook, and I can confirm this issue
exists on all the VGN-FS notebooks at least.
Since this issue is still an issue in Feisty, I'm upgrading the package
to 2.6.20 and confirming this so that someone in the kernel team can
take a look at this.

I try to keep apt-sources pretty clean apart from those extra
repositories added by automatix (but many people do that). The only
other thing I can think of that I do that not many other people do is to
use texlive rather than tetex since I have a job which involves
technical editing of documents

I found it takes more than half a minute to load ACPI modules and start HALd
on my Thinkpad R51e-2xc, with Feisty RC live CD.
The computer looks dead in those two steps.
This problem happened at the first release of Feist
I think the problem lies within a TSC compatibility problem with multi-
core processors with independant core clocking. it seems that frequency
scaling is improperly registered by the kernel, and causes bugs such as
this one and bug 99356 with some keyboards. To solve it, just add
"notsc" to your b
Oh, forgot we can do attachments here (duh!).
This is one patch that's being considered, which should get rid of the pop.
Can anyone here who has the problem please try this immediately and report back?

We (libata kernel dudes) are working on a simpler kernel level fix for
this now, which may not require any immediate changes to scripts.
If anyone here can patch/rebuild kernels, then I have some code that
needs testing before we queue it into 2.6.21, and then make it available
for the Ubuntu kern
I've upgraded to
linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic 2.6.20.15.14
nvidia 1.0.9631+2.6.20.5-15.20
and the kernel-dump disappeared. Wireless keeps working (ipw3945).
But I still have a very slow responding system during playback. No video and
bad audio.

daemon. Could you look at the value of the gconf key where you don't get
numlock? It's supposed to restore the state which was used during the
previous session, are you sure you didn't stop numlock?

Egg (installed with eazy_install) - please don't mix debs and Eggs!

Strange, I couldn't reproduce this. Perhaps there is something unique in
your font configuration/installed fonts? Have either of you installed
