The *real* solution proposed is to use gl instead of xv to play videos while
the intel driver is buggy.

I am now pretty sure that the frequency of losing connection is
unpredictable. I don't write "random" on purpose, because it may be that
I am losing connection due to outside influences. I recently booted into
Windows, and lost connection all the time, much more frequently than I

Drawbacks are that glimagesink is messy when moving windows under
compiz. Of course, workaround does not fix other players such as xine
and mplayer. However, thanks for the solution, it makes sense for
gstreamer based players, it could be adopted by default. Gstreamer

I report that I'm having issues like those mentioned in several bugs on two
different pcs using intel graphics (and the intel driver):
xv output (totem, mplayer) doesn't work if desktop effects are active.
The strange thing is that it used to work until about a month ago.

Well, u do not have to give up compiz-fusion nor the intel driver because of
this bug nor video accell.
A good workaround is to give up only xv: install gstreamer0.10-gl, run
gstreamer-properties, and on video-output select custom and insert glimagesink.
Works fine for me :)

I can confirm this. Enabling SyncToVblank greatly reduces the CPU load, but
kills the FPS. The most I can get is about 60 FPS. Also my monitors refresh
rate. Also certain things like Compiz don't run as smoothly with SyncToVblank
enabled.

i can confirm this too, from gnome-sound-properties can hear the sound,
but doing the actions in the desktop which should trigger the sounds,
nothing plays.

This is true with the dist upgrades, I had to manually add the CD to apt
repo list before I could upgrade to Gutsy.

The bug is still there. I've installed version 0.4.0 of the plugin, but
I still get the same error. I reckon it might have something to do with
the song title having more than 256 characters.

In Ubuntu Gutsy Tribe 6 with all updates, lowering the volume from the
gnome-volume-manager now works flawlessly
However, the soundcard now only partially works ; the front speakers of
the laptop works OK but the little bass speaker under the laptop never
works. It's not really better be
