I'm having the same problem on my Gutsy Athlon 64 machine. When it goes
to sleep from inactivity, the screen won't come back. The power light
remains steady and I can open and close the CD /DVD drive and the
optical mouse remains lit, but I cannot get the screen back. I am

Yes, I am running Gusty Beta with all updates as well. I'm not sure it
was the command Chris gave me that did it. Because I remember that after
running it, I was able to run Screensaver. The first time it crashed X,
I was watching a video in VLC and ever since, opening Screensaver
crashes X. So
This is due to restrictions of the linux driver. Upstream is working on
it, but it seems to be not an easy task. Especially the bcm4318 (or
latest b43) seems to be only usable with rates =11MBit/s.

no way to idenitfy the cause, and was solved by reinstalling manually a package.

Apparently one can install the archived driver with restricted installed
as well.
When I do a full purge on all of the restricted bits, /sbin/lrm-video
ceases to exist. This will result in X generating the lrm-video not
found error when it attempts to load the NVidia module. modprobe nvidia

I can confirm this. I'm running Gutsy on Lenovo T60 (1680x1050 wide
screen) with fglrx driver and ati mobility x1400 graphics adapter. With
Feisty suspend worked well, as well as with Gutsy running Feisty kernel

Had the same problem upgrading from Feisty to Gutsy with working
fglrx+Xgl config. I had to revert several Xgl feisty-specific changes
so stuff actually works.
I modified the suggestion in comment 7 and executed:

I just upgraded to Gutsy from Feisty yesterday. This is on AMD64. I
installed flashplugin-nonfree, and flash seemed to work great once I
restarted Firefox. But after restarting my machine, flash does not
display in any websites.
