start pulseaudio by itself when a user logs in. I have to login to a
terminal and manually start pulseaudio before I can login to GNOME (yes,

OK, I got this working. I had to boot to a previous kernel, then put the
output of sudo vol_id -u /dev/hda1 in /etc/fstab, instead of
/dev/hda1.
I think this should have been taken care of automatically during the
update. I didn't even know there was a 'vol_id' program, or that the
UUID is now

The new kernel managed to mount my root filesystem (/dev/hda1) but
failed to mount any more of them. running fdisk /dev/hda and fdisk
/dev/hdb I received an error message that the devices did not exist.

the opposite problem. The problem in #215761 was _not_ setting
portable_audio_player.type to generic, but in this case is the problem
I compiled and installed the serialmonkey drivers for rt2500 and blacklisted
the old ones, and moved the .ko-file to the right place.
It's dirty, but it worked, now I get full speeds with my rt2500 card, possibly
even faster than I ever did in Gutsy! :)

v2.0.11. It would be nice if there were some menu option to re-attempt
registration or perhaps a configurable number of retries with delays

I have almost exactly the same problem with notebook HP dv6780ew.
When I suspend or hibernate, and resume, I have no wifi working.
knetworkmanager or nm-applet (depending if I'm using gnome or kde) shows

I have the same error, but I think it may be hardware related.
I installed Hardy Alpha. Everything was fine. Then, one day, the
computer had a great fall. After that, it would give the Internal
Error, failed to initialize HAL! error. But it happens only with the
newer kernels. 2.6.24-12 works
PS: by contrast, 2.7.7.7 works equally well in LTSP and on a local disk,
on this ThinCan.

Nice little trick! Unfortunately it will only work in X and not for the
console. Furthermore I really think the bug should be properly fixed in

This is because ntfs-3g is ignoring locales when mounting the ntfs
drive, at least when called from kde. I used to solve this in feisty by
having a entry in fstab specifying locale=pt_PT.utf8 among other
options for the ntfs partitions/usb drives, but now on hardy if I have a

Yes, installing those packages does restore support, but an upgrade
should not remove such support. Would making sox recommend these
packages, rather than suggest them, fix this?

i did what jeremiah suggested but now i can only log into gnome failsafe..
if i log into gnome aftere 5 seconds i get a failure message and it returns to
log in screen.

This is NOT the same issue as is currently being reported with the
Ubuntu screensaver where the cursor is visible. Resume from disk works
properly. System is up-to-date. I can tell the system is running
otherwise after resume. If I switch consoles CTRL F1, etc, the screen
