you seem to be the only one to get the issue, could you report it
directly to bugzilla.gnome.org you can reply to their comments easily
which is not the case for bug triagers who don't get the issue

? I didn't expect any help. Thanks for mentioning the phpize trick-
Maybe I should have posted this on the ubuntu brainstorm site in the first
place. It might be too specialized, though.
I'm just saying that the mssql / sybase PHP-DB-Extension-Module issue is
more complicated than it needs to
A colleague had this same problem and it turns out there was a debconf
window wanting to know whether to keep or replace the samba config
file... she says the window didn't come to the foreground.

package samba-common 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4 failed to upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy
Just moving this bug forward to be against the actively developed kernel
(ie the 'linux' package). Martin, let us know if this was still an
issue with Hardy? If so, have you been able to test Intrepid? Thanks.

This happens for me, too: on a brand new installation of Intrepid (not
an upgrade from hardy, or over a previous install). I've applied all
pending package updates. The account I'm using has no individual emacs
config files, and there is no local site config yet.

I looked into this and I would like to suggest that we use the patch in
my debian-cd branch. I remastered the alternate CD to have a Release
file without the uncompressed Packages file (those are missing on the CD
now too) and it installed just fine.
Fixing it inside update-manager would mean
I fixed that particular bug. It still sucks, it's awfully slow and you
don't get the target directory dialog either, but that has to do for the
beta, I'm afraid.
Package uploaded, waiting in unapproved.
