main desktop too, although they don't make the machine lose connectivity

I can confirm this issue under Ubuntu Intrepid fully updated.
I think it should be enough by adding libjpeg-progs as a recommended package
since apt-get would install it automagically.

However, please change the system firmware path in config.h rather than
in loader.c (just change UCODEDIR as appropriate).
Also, you don't need #include "loader.h" again; it's already included in

I have a Thinkpad X40 with a Hitachi hard disk. It is a C4Kxx series
disk, which is not supported by Hitachi's "Feature Tool," so I'm unable
to change the default APM settings in the disk's firmware.
I've been following this bug and its related threads closely and
implemented the most recent fixes
Happens to me as well.
When I adjust the brightness with function keys, afterwards the keyboard
doesn't work at all. Alt+Backspace does bring it back after I log in
again. I can replicate this at will.
One additional note, I can't move windows or click on menu items either
when this occurs.
