I believe the Pango library needs to be updated to handle the new
combinations (~c + vowels and ~j + vowels) correctly. They have already
done the work of implementing the normal 'c' and 'j' combinations, so
the work of implementing '~c' and '~j' combinations should be easy.

Bruno, thanks for quick reply.
I tried clicking the icon (to the left). It shows the calculator, and it
is checked.
I tried typing 2+2=, it worked. Thanks.
I was not aware, that I should type '=' at the end. In the old runner, I
should hit Enter.

Thanks for the detailed report. Could you run 'sudo killall system-
tools-backends; sudo /usr/bin/system-tools-bakends -nd' providing your
password when required, and then reproduce the procedure listed in your
report, and paste the messages printed on the screen here? That could be
very helpful

Last week I added the xorg-edgers PPA, this installed a new package:
libdrm-radeon1 and I experienced this bug.
Downgrading the packages and removing the PPA fixed it. My guess is that
some changes from xorg-edgers have filtered down to vanilla Karmic and
the bug has come down with it. I haven't
