I did a number of things including installing and de-installing "usbmount"
package, doing several reboots. At the end I messed up my fstab with invalid
entries. After removing all this entries and booting again the auto-mount

Completely by accident I discovered that cold plugging a SATA drive on the
Intel controller works.
My boot drive is PATA and I only ever hot-plug SATA drives for temporary usage.
Hot-plugging of SATA drives worked on the Intel controller under Ubuntu 8.04.
Now under 10.04 hot-plugging does not

Just a little addendum: I installed the "ugly" and "bad" codecs from
gstreamer by hand and now it plays DVD. Without them totem looks for
"DVD playback" and finds no appropriate package. The "high" bitrate DVD

During update after initial install of xubuntu 10.04 64bit a window
appears which asks to install grub-pc. It was not possible to continue
the installation with click on the forward button. This is the reason
for the crash report.
