I've had this problem since 9.10. It only started affecting me badly
enough to want to do something yesterday, and now I find there is a bug

Sorry I didn't notice you were using an x86_64 kernel. The ndiswrapper
workaround would probably work better for i686 kernels (at least it
seems to be outperforming the ath9k module in my case despite lower
signal strength).

It looks like the version you are trying to install does not support the
version of Ubuntu you have. Userful Multiplier in the Ubuntu

I too removed sun-java-6 plugin and installed the icedtea6 version
again.It had the old bugs with it. I cannot find sun java in repos to
install in maverick..

Expected behavior:
The ethernet port should be shut down when the computer turns off.
What happens instead:
The port starts sending fake data, the activity LED for the port starts
flashing, both on my router and
