I see the same behavior Tormod describes on Lucid+Gnome, so I'm going to
sponsor this fix. (I had to rework the debdiff to apply against the
newly synced version of xaos in Maverick)
Since this is just a bugfix, I don't believe it requires an FFe.

I have an hp pavilion tx1308nr and the same bug affects me. Alt+Ctrl+f1
and then Alt+Ctrl+f7 gets me to the login screen after the splash screen
when running on battery power. When I run on AC power my computer boots
fine. The screen resolution on the ubuntu splash page stinks though.

I had the Logitech Fusion webcam laying about so tried it and noted the same
problem. I have to rmmod and then modprobe the uvcvideo module for the webcam
to work. It then seems to work OK but I have not tested extensively.

This appears to be related specifically to Tomboy. I got this behavior
(when I right-clicked on icons like Terminal, the label would expand to
the right (as if expanding to the length needed to show "Keep in
launcher" or whatever) but would not show a menu, just the app title).

I updated my kernel through Ubuntu's Update Manager today and my ASUS
HDAV1.3 Deluxe sound card is no longer recognised. The kernel version
with this problem (from uname -a) appears to be 'Linux 2.6.32-24-generic
