That was really the reason, wrong UUID and therefore cryptsetup failed
since it didn't find the correct partition. The first visible error
message cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available was kinda
misleading.
So toobuntu and Eric, check that you have correct UUID.

I can confirm here, and I'm using Radeon graphics with the default open
source drivers, so no workaround here.
Symptoms are the same -- when tuning any of several HD channels, my
entire login session is ended.

So is this going to remain broken for Maverick or will there be an
official update? I don't see any new package available in maverick-
updates, I don't know why this is marked as fix released just because
the error's been corrected upstream?

I installed the new driver Ati Catalyst 10.10 ( ubuntu 10.10)
But I always found this bug !
I can not draw some objects (circle, rectangle, star)
Worked OK on 10.04.
