Public bug reported:
After installing Oneiric alpha 3, and today's updates, nothing is
setting XAUTHORITY.
Steps to reproduce:
1- log in
2- echo $XAUTHORITY
3- sudo -i
4- echo $XAUTHORITY
ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10
Package: lightdm 0.9.2-0ubuntu4
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.
Above I had already described a manual workaround.
After killling -9 gnome-session one can use the terminal provided by the rescue
session to start gnome-session
(the new Ubuntu gui is even more unusable then Gnome-3)
Killing gdm and running startx is not necessary.
Cheers
