I've just tried using libreoffice on debian (version at end) and it
opened the document read only. Once 'save as' is used, it still defaults

Why assume this is Pidgin-specific? Shouldn't all packages be built with
build-hardening enabled?
And indeed. looking at /proc/$pid/maps for two bash processes on 11.04
shows that the libraries, heap, and stack are randomized but the bash
image itself is the same both times.

I did an upgrade from natty to oneiric using 'do-release-upgrade -d'.
Natty was configured for automatic login and included a custom.conf.
After the upgrade I'm brought to a lightdm login screen. The automatic
login configuration was not copied into l

debug this. If there are volunteers willing to help debug who are able
to reproduce this, they should follow those instructions and attach the
resulting logs. Until then this bug is apparently unreproducible with
insufficient
