Unity should not force its choice on the user.
The ability to add applets and indicators needs to be restored to the
user. I very much had a set of system indicators, in my earlier gnome-
panel, and now with unity, that freedom is gone. I no longer can view
system load / performance / temperature
I just realised that my post is wrong (and that I cannot delete it).
But what I meant to say is related: In my Ocelot resize doesn't work
with the default Alt+Button2 (middle). I've managed to bind it to
Alt+Button3 (right), but that's not what I want.

If the line 'GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text' is in /etc/default/grub and I boot
with the kernel parameter 'noplymouth' (instead of default 'quiet splash') then
the first few messages after the kernel is loaded do appear on a screen with
(estimated) VGA size! But only seconds later
I have had the same problem on my PackardBell dot a netbook. Unloading acer_wmi
also solves the problem.
I also tried to load acer_wmi wireless=1 but it fails with unknown parameter

Exactly the same problem as Mark Baas on an Acer 3830T.
Actually before update to kernel 3.0.13, I had sound by compiling the
latest alsa-driver snapshots. After 3.0.13, I had no sound at all even

Unfortunately guest session still doesn't work when using the lightdm
from proposed. I get a black screen with cursor when I try a guest
session. The following errors are reported in dmesg/syslog:
