Unfortunately that fix didn't work for me. The mouse pointer is still
trapped on screen one, after the instal of nVidia 304.60 from the .run
file. I used $sudo killall kdm instead of sudo service lightdm stop.

When pressing the d key in an xrdp session, the show_desktop action
is triggered. It is unclear whether this is a faulty mapping in xrdp,
or a problem with metacity. There are a number of workarounds given in
the thread below, but no actual solution or patch to prevent the
packagekit updates are handled by gnome-settings-daemon. However the
ubuntu build of g-s-d has packagekit disabled.
The quick fix would be to rebuild g-s-d with packagekit, but I suppose
that not likely SRUable. In addition it would result in another
duplicated prefs tool (software-sources and
PPA solved it for me on 12.04.
I had this problem for so long and had tried
all the solutions out there unsuccessfuly.

To fix it for me I deleted ~/.config/Empathy/chatrooms.xml, restarted
Empathy, and joined the rooms again. They were saved as favourites, and
Empathy now connects automatically to those rooms I have marked as

In other words this seems to be some kind of distro upgrade bug.

This breaks programs using absolute paths, like music players
(Rhythmbox), photo library management (Shotwell) and Safely Remove from

i don't think ths works on all hda codecs . may be just specifc realtek
and sigmatel codecs since there are notebook which have dual headphone
jacks using these codecs

This can be fixed simply by setting execute permissions on
/usr/share/GvRng/gvrng.py.
A quick workaround for users of the current broken package is to run the
following command as root:
dpkg-statoverride --update --add root root 755 /usr/share/GvRng/gvrng.py
