In any case, I am having the exact same intermittent problem as reported
initially by Carsten Heidmann. Once in a while (maybe 1 out of 10 log-

Once in a while (about every day) the server would start to run slower and
slower, until it hung.
During the running slower I found out that I could not kill -9 processes.
Furthermore the display shows the following

Even more with WinXP.
So I think this whole bug is hardware -related. This bug is not to

I have been having the same problem since I installed 64 bit 12.10
(fresh install). It does not happen consistently, only every other or
every three or four boots.
Custom shortcuts that had not keyboard combinations assigned by default
are not affected.

The problem is back again in 12.10. Have not tried the #50 fix yet, but
the common problems for me are:
1. Mouse moves correctly until I stop using it for a couple of seconds.
After that it behaves good for 0.5 seconds, then bad for 0.5 seconds and

OK; so we've got to be careful to keep the debug together; I think you really
have two separate things going on:
a) Slow when transferring lots of stuff (as per your vmstat in #9)
b) 'hang up's
Is that perf report from the 'hang up' state - it doesn't seem to have
much system/kernel CPU
For me the issue occurs with Juniper SSL VPN. Apparently network manager
adds the original default route, I'd guess upon DHCP renew, which
overrides the default route that should go to my VPN tunnel (from
/var/log/syslog):
NetworkManager[xxx]: info Policy set 'xxx' (wlan0) as default for IPv4
I have the problem when printting just 1 page that contains big images
like a high resolution photo. The HP Photosmart starts print job and
hangs in the middle.

I just in contact with the author of patch. Will try a patch that he
sent me after some alsa-info.sh turns.
Looks like iMac 9.1 sound have Subsystem 0x106 b4300 but kernel is now
expecting it as 0x106b, 0x4900.

According to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=597094, a fix
was committed to GIMP's trunk branch today. That should solve the
problem.Very cool, so it's fixed updstream.

Just an FYI for people that come across this bug: not all USB devices
are affected. USB passthrough is working for me with a Logitech C920
webcam in Ubuntu 12.10 (qemu-kvm 1.2.0), albeit with some video
freezing.

Nautilus does not handle FTP timeouts well

I can confirm having run into this bug on my Toshiba Satellite
A505-S6960 under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and after installing Ubuntu 12.10 over
it. It's a big battery drain and I have to keep turning the brightness
down manually after logging in; it's very annoying.
