Your timing could not be better, I discovered the problem just a few hours
ago. The init script that creates all the problems belongs to couchpotato.
In particular, it messes up the permissions of the directory it drops its
PID file in. In my case, it was tmp. Later, I moved it to /var/run

The Avision backend has a bug which prevents scanners from being opened.
1) Attach an Avision scanner
2) Type: scanimage --help -d avision
Open fails with an "Invalid argument" error message.

Hi,
I'm affected by this bug and I see that it's kinda old. So does redshift
is discontinued? Any chance of solving it?
I'm using Gnome 3 and I tryed some workarounds wighout success like
.bash_logout, or /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default.
Does you have some other tips for me?

Please note that if you are experiencing the same bug as with Samsung
firmware it is not safe to run Windows in UEFI mode either until the
firmware has been fixed. Matthew Garrett has demonstrated that the
bricking can be triggered on a purely Windows system, from userspace,
without linux
