Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled
the xorg-edgers-ppa. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains
different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. The page,

but trusty's squid.conf path is /etc/squid3/squid.conf

Updated from 13.10 to 14.04 several machines with 2x2Tb HD's without
problem. Found the problem with one machine with 2x3Tb HD's.
Machines had only one OS: ubuntu 13.10
Working machines has partition table type msdos, the failed one has
partition table type gpt as per parted -l

I disconnected one of the monitors (the 17 1280x1024) and now the
radeon driver is driving the display.
It's running fullscreen at max resolution but Xorg will fall back to
fbdev if I plug the monitor back in and restart Xorg.

Kudos to getting right-click behaviour like in Windows/Android. I manage to get
a near to natural timing of the click using .22sec as the secondary click
timing (using dconf). This behaviour is still really unnatural because you
never know when you get it right until you lift up the finger.

Also experiencing this bug. Machine is a dual boot system Ubuntu
Windows 8. Never ran grub-install until trying to fix this issue, so it
must have nothing to do with manually fiddling with settings.
Things that did not work:
* sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-efi
* sudo grub-install /dev/sda2 sudo

This problem has stopped me from installing software for sometime. I
decided to upgrade to latest 12.04. but the message libxml2: could not
be configured appeared during the upgrade.

Deleting all the hidden files and folders in the home directory was
overkill. Which specific hidden file/folders would have been more

I can't really agree with the non-solution you offer, especially when
Montreal can be selected once the OS is installed. Someone made a wrong
change thus affecting the installer and this should simply be reverted.
According to your reasoning Halifax should also be deleted since it's
