Also experiencing this bug. Machine is a dual boot system Ubuntu &
Windows 8. Never ran grub-install until trying to fix this issue, so it
must have nothing to do with manually fiddling with settings.

Things that did not work:
* sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-efi
* sudo grub-install /dev/sda2 && sudo grub-install /dev/sda6, then sudo 
dpkg-reconfigure grub-efi
* sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
