I'm getting DOS'd about 20 times a day as a result of this issue.
Could a "band-aid" shell script be whipped up by anyone in the know, to
physically purge the expired lease files periodically, and posted here?
I would gladly set such a script to run as a "cleanup service" or even
run it

It's just an installation prefix of many possible. Installations into
`/usr/local` should provide files for binaries of that prefix and installations
into `/usr` (source installation or packages) should provide files for binaries
in that prefix.
Agreed, this is not invalid -- I just experienced this same problem
after upgrade to Lubuntu Xenial from Wily, and although intermittent, it
is very real. Logging out seems to solve the issue, at least
temporarily.

Hi Richard, I'm glad you have paid attention to this problem.
A few weeks ago I've upgraded my Ubuntu version from 14.04 to 16.04 and faced
with this issue. Now every time before connecting my USB sound-card I have to
kill the 'fwupd' process.
