that this version is no longer based on the major (September) release,
but rather a previous minor release, in this case from July. Is that

to see if there is an existing ~/.evolution folder, and bypass the setup

Thank Loic! I think I got it now. It does work... to a degree.
I just did a new install of Feisty, and did -
System>Administration>Language support Check "Japanese". The script
starts, and the packages are downloaded successfully. After making sure
that "complex characters" is checked, I click OK.
Just a final confirmation that this bug is still present in the final
Feisty.
Whats more, im-switch -z "LOCALE used" -s scim doesn't seem to work
anymore.
Lets see if we can get this fixed for Gutsty

On a clean Feisty install, I can confirm that this works for me too:
1) sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
2) choose Vesa
3) remove all resolutions except 640x480
4) set "HorizSync 36-52" and "VertRefresh 36-60"
5) startx

This bug is confirmed for the final Kubuntu Feisty. I have a 1280x800
laptop with a x1400 Radeon Mobile.
When booting the live-CD I end up with a blank screen.

Sorry to do a follow up, but it seems this bug isn't moving forward. I
just did a fresh install of Feisty with all the updates. The bug is
still present.
It would be great for all the users that need CJK language support to
have this fixed for Feisty Final.

Sorry, this problem still exists in a fresh install of Herd CD 5.
Steps taken:
After installation, under System Settings -> Regional and Language, install
New Language"Japanese"
Add Japanese to "Languages"
(adept batch completes successfully)
Set keyboard to Japanese and logout

When I get some Japanese mails, for example from amazon.co.jp, the
CheckGmail notification just shows a lot of garbled characters.

After installing Scim, Japanese input works everywhere except in
openoffice. You can paste Japanese characters into Oo, but it doesn't
let you change input-method using Scim to write Japanese.

This problem still exists in Feisty Herd 3 (kubuntu). Using the
following workaround, I can get it to work in all applications except
Open Office:
sudo touch /etc/X11/Xsession.d/74custom-scim_startup
sudo chmod 646 /etc/X11/Xsession.d/74custom-scim_startup
echo 'export XMODIFIERS="@im=SCIM"' >> /e
This bug still exists in Feisty Herd 3. It would be nice to have a fix
finally :)

When choosing a language using the language selector, the packages
needed to read .pdf files are not installed automatically. The user will
not be able to read pdf files in the selected language.
This should be fairly easy to correct. F
