Same problem for me in 14.04 - my (old) laptop just doesn't see my
Fujifilm XP200 anymore.
I'd love to help, upload reports or log files etc., but I just don't quite
understand how.
I see that penalvch has regularly requested more information about this issue
on this page, and added some

Public bug reported:
When I adjust the volume on my laptop using the keys (Fn+F5/F6) the
keys repeat (making the volume go all the way up/down) and then try to
continue increasing/decreasing.
Not only can I not adjust the volume properly (set to a medium vol) I
can no longer use any text input
I read though the info at wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting but don't
understand it fully.
I seems to be like the problem described in 'Step by Step Troubleshooting' 4.b.
Not sure how to capture it (keyboard locks when I recreate fault anyway)

I suffer the same problems of other pavilion Turion64 X2 users: system can be
started only with noapic option (sometimes it can boot without it, but only if
I use the NVIDIA proprietary drivers: in that case is very unstable, expecially
during the boot and the shutdown).
