Same issue for me, also on photosmart 7450. I managed to get one test
page out of the printer and that's it. What is happening is that the
printer disappears from the usb channel. Why it does that I do not know
but the computer really cannot communicate to the printer anymore when
it is gone.
i'm sort of affected. After login I sometimes do not have borders.
Most of the time it works OK but I'd say about 1 out of 6 times it fails
and I need to log out/log in to get my borders back with compiz.

something about the menu needing to be converted. Didn't pay much
attention to it and clicked on OK, next thing I know clicking on
Thanks for the interest. I didn't have this issue when upgrading to
Hardy Heron but by then my configuration had changed. I will try to
do the upgrade to Ibex in the same conditions and see if it occurs
again and let you know the result.

My last comment is only a workaround. What needs/needed to be fixed is
the broken dependancy.

I would certainly hope so. In my bios there is no option to
enable/disable cpu frequency scaling. That could solve the issue I've
read on different places. My only option is to have it enabled in the
CPU, hence I'm stuck with a 2.6.20 kernel.

[GUTSY] cpu freq scaling not working anymore
update: I've just tested and for fujitsu-siemens Amilo M1424 bios
version 1.03 you can select load optimal defaults. For me that fixed
to get frequency scaling working with 2.6.22-14-generic. I don't know
what novelties 2.6.22 brings over 2.6.20 but I'm glad I'm not stuck
anymore.

Shouldn't the Importance go up? If the patch isn't applied in the final
release then people with the sonoma cpu will be working at 600Mhz.
Lucky my Feisty kernel was kept during the upgrade so I'm using that one
for now.

I also have an azerty lay-out defined in xorg.conf. After the upgrade,
the initial login was in qwerty but I had to remove my feisty xorg.conf
in order to make xorg work. I did not have to change anything to the
keyboard lay-out once logged in. A second login had again the correct
lay-out.

Binary package hint: update-manager
I had my Feisty installation run without the bottom toolbar that shows

I also have a boot parameter vga=0x318 which worked on Feisty. Did my

to just vga. For the record, I have an ATI radeon Mobility 9600

'compiz --replace ' returns back with borders as normal
it is 'fusion-icon ' that comes back without borders. The output shown is
first of fusion-icon and then compiz --replace

Forgot to add..
Compiz-gnome was installed. Emerald not which was installed and used
when running Feisty. In Feisty the trevino repository was used. I'll
try completely removing compiz and reinstalling again to see if that
helps. On Feisty I've also had occasions where fusion-icon failed but
I updated from Feisty with working cpu scaling to Gutsy on 16/10 and now
have no cpu scaling. Powernowd returns the same message:
* Stopping powernowd: [ OK ]
* Starting powernowd... /etc/init.d/powernowd: 156: cannot create
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0//cpufreq/scaling_governor: Directory
I got to fix it by changing vesafb into radeonfb in the above
instructions. vesafb is not present on the system so it cannot be
loaded. radeonfb does and it works even better than vesafb did. Much
clearer font in the console. Unfortunately cpu scaling doesn't work
*sigh* so I cannot use this
Fair enough, fusion-icon is not part of the ubuntu repositories.

Gutsy,
Public bug reported:
The metapackages seem like an ugly way around system limitations.
There's a need to ease the installation of a group of packages because
they are tightly related to eachother eventhough they do not depend on
eachother. For this, Ubuntu uses metapackages but it does make for
I'm not sure if it is related but during tweak testing, I've found that
the combination of setting the AGPMode and AGPFastWrite somehow
conflict. For me setting them both locks up xorg. So I leave out
AGPFastWrite which makes it default to off on both Edgy and Feisty.

What I did was installing it from within a terminal and it automatically
suggested to revert to the old packages. That's a great feature I
didn't know about :) And it works!
