I have the same problem. Updated yesterday from nvidia-common 0.2.91.6 to
0.2.91.7 and then restarted the computer. I see the loading logo of ubuntu,
then a black screen, with no possibility to run a shell. All freezed.

I'm investigating the issue.
Changing the /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb4/4-1/power/control from "on" to "auto",
have the right effect to auto-suspend the HDSPA modem. This will save about 500
mW. More investigations revealed that in Ubuntu 12.04, this device has the
maximum power usage setted to 500m
For me, in Ubuntu 12.04 (with my netbook Zareason Terra HD) this bug is fixed.

My powertop test were all at battery fully charged, in the same
conditions (display backlight, wifi turned on, ecc.), with a record time
of a few minutes (about 3-4). I hope these were enough accurate tests.

drains a lot of power. Disabling it from powetop, and activating also

Both daily build and rc9 of kernel 3.1 have the same issue. For them powertop
shows a power usage of 9W.
The kernel 3.0 is about 7W.
The extra power top device draining power in the "Device Codec audio hwC0D0:

The kernel 2.6.38-12.51 don't solves the problem for me. I see a little
improvement in battery life (from 4h to 4h30'), but powertop doesn't notice any
reduction in power usage in idle. Moreover, the optimal battery life of my
netbook should be about 6h. ( aspm parameter at boot does nothing).

The default package in Ubuntu is libsdl1.2debian-alsa. If anyone want to play
with Nexuiz, he must replace manually this package with
libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio.

You are right, I update Amarok to 2.2.2 version, and with the permission
applied previouslly to ~.kde folder, Amarok still works great, so the folder is
not touched. May be the problem in some other package/dependency of Kde, that
is installed togheter Kde applications like Ama
I reinstalled all the packages related to cups, and cups too. After
that cpus works, but at the next restart of the computer, the problem
is still there, and cups is not loaded. I had to run manually every time
"sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart" to make cups alive, otherwise I can not
print anything

using "sudo"). The same for the others Kde applications, like Kaffeine or K3b:

744 prmissions, all the apps, Amarok included, finally works. So is an
installation/packaging problem.

had to make compiz non-executable:

I'm using 180.51 version of the nvidia driver. Installed by "sudo sh
nvidia.run", I had the following error: "error: unable to open
'/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so' for reading (no souch file
or directory)", but the installation succesfully complete. Now the

message come back. If I choose "reindex all contents", follow a message
to confirm, and then for about an hour, the are no other messages. The
