Kino is very old in Ubuntu - several upstream versions with important bugfixes
and lots of improvements has been released, please package ver. 1.0.x

Do you notice any change in the sound your computer makes? Can you hear if the
hard drive is still spinning (running) or do fans start or stop?
Which version of Ubuntu are you running? Have you updated your system recently?
