Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: initramfs-tools
I'm not sure if I picked the right package, because (even in recovery
mode) there is so little output while the system is booting.
After upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04 beta1, my system did not boot
anymore. Picking single mode or the older

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: evince
Our invoices are set in 10.5 pt DejaVu Sans Mono in PDF. Since upgrading
from jaunty to karmic, evince prints them with what appears to be font
size 10, as if the non-integer part of the number was truncated. On
screen rendering is correct, though.
I had this problem with Inkscape. It often happened within a few minutes from
starting Inkscape. Thanks for the workaround!
Here's a slightly simpler procedure for the same workaround:
1. Edit ~/.scim/config and set /FrontEnd/X11/Dynamic = true
2. Make the file immutable: sudo chattr +i ~/.scim
Can't the bitmap be generated post-install, with a generic logo in it?
This technique could be used for all applications with splash screens,
about screens, and other artwork. Some simple package could just have
the logo in /etc/.../distro-logo.png, and imagemagick can be used to
compose new images
Just leaving a note that I'm currently experiencing exactly the same on
a non-Ubuntu Debian sid system with a 2.6.18-xen kernel.

Public bug reported:
The shutdown applet in the upper right corner is very close to the "X"
of an application that is maximized. This apparently confuses my dad,
who has several times got the shut down dialog when he just wanted to
close a window.
He used Windows XP before, in which the X to clos

The Dutch translation is confusing in the same way. Apparently it is the
size of the new partition, not the new size of the existing partition,
but I wasted an hour because I interpreted it the other way.

Indeed this bug is probably wider than gnome-terminal.
I can compose these characters fine in KDE programs that run under
GNOME.
