Ok. This was probably a bug in the update-manager that only manifested
symptoms in my case in pcscd.
I noticed the only place 'hirsute' was mentioned was in /etc/apt/ is one
file, /etc/apt/sources.list.d/system.sources there. Once I changed all
instances of 'hirsute' to 'impish' in
/etc/apt/sourc

attempt is made to add an ed25519 or ecdsa key, a message "Error reading
response length from authentication socket." is given. The keyring
accepts RSA keys, it should accept the other types of keys as wel

I'm able to unlock it manually but not using the installed system's own
tools. I have to use a Live image. But both the 14.04 and 14.10 Live
images work for that. Is there some boot parameter I could use to try

I've tried getting at the installed partition using the 14.04 live
image. When I go to the console:
# cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda4 foo
# mount /dev/mapper/foo /mnt
Cryptsetup accepts the decryption password ok, but mount gives the error
"mount: unknown filesystem type 'LVWM2_member'"
