I'm having a similar issue running 12.04 with the Trusty hardware
enablement stack; kernel v3.13. I have the MCP51 controller and get
random protocol flaps even with the physical link still up. This causes
problems as I have an NFS auto mounted home directory. My only

Thanks again. Nope, no workaround other than not using compiz or not
using a screensaver. The latter I view as a security vulnerability, so
I guess I have to live with the crashing...compiz --replace does not

Looks like I was able to repair this issue via the resolution in bug
#386167. My username originally had a hyphen in it and I think that is
what was causing the problems logging into the Ubuntu wiki. I have
since changed it to one of the new names I used on the Ubuntu wiki and
it works fine now.

Lucid will break a lot of things...waiting for at least 10.04.1 before

Upon login, I am prompted to continue with Open ID as cookies have saved
said information. I am then presented with the confirmation page asking
me to allow my email, userid, etc. to be used by wiki.ubuntu.com. I

Nvidia driver 195.36.15 seems to be working so far. When coming out of
the screensaver it stalls for maybe 3-5 seconds, but I'll take that over

command in a root shell since once you close the shell (aka logout) the
overrides get lost. You have to allow init to parse the command in
from 'rc.local' at boot time in order for it to stick. :)

The majority decision here is actually the proper one to take. At some
point in time, for all software, a decision has to be made when to deem
a package no longer supported it favor of its successor. I realize this

Here is a workaround I found on the Ubuntu forums. Credit goes to Dr
Small. I have confirmed this workaround works with Karmic and Lucid,
however the problem is still present in Hardy even after applying Dr.
Small's workaround. I don't know about Intrepid or Jaunty though.

I'm good with that. Since we have a patch and now have an idea of what
the root cause maybe, if we choose to pursue this issue it will be in a
package that dvd::rip depends on rather than in dvd::rip itself. Thanks

I can also confirm this bug. I have noticed compiz.real crashes with a
segfault in libglcore.so while system is under load with the screensaver
active. Judging from timestamps within the logs, it appears the crash
happens while the screensaver is active rather that upon unlocking it.

So I did a rip of a unencrypted disc and it worked 100% fine -- no
errors at all. Jörn, your patch helps in that we do not have to re-
start dvd::rip. But after finding that an unencrypted disc works, this
leads me to think you may be on to something about the TOC, CSS and the
number of frames.
