Just got the error from update-manager again today. I'm still on 14.04.
I can go into Synaptic and manually remove individual older installed
versions of the kernel, and the line that Franck posted will go and
remove all old versions of the kernel that are installed. Either one
frees up space.

Hello! A year later it turns out this is STILL happening. I had a drive
with a 14.04 LTS install on it which had been set up with LVM.
I booted an install USB to do a clean install of 14.04 (had moved the
drive to a different system) and told ubiquity: "erase disk and install
ubuntu" and "use LVM
Sorry for adding a comment to a 'fix released' bug, but, is there a plan
for the updated pulseaudio package to get backported to 14.04? I just
checked and it's on 1:4.0-0ubuntu11 with nothing in the updates
repository.
It would be nice to have this fix available for LTS.

This has continued in 14.04 LTS. If the release is intended for long
term support, the /boot partition should probably be larger when the OS
is installed and Ubuntu creates the partitions. This is only a temp fix,
though.

This JUST started happening to me today. I ran update manager on my
system yesterday evening and something has gone and screwed up the
wireless connectivity.
Whenever it happens, the only way I can get it to work again is to
restart the machine.
Same module (r8192se_pci). I also found that using
I'd like to add that going in and manually editing /etc/apt/sources.list
works to disable the repositories; then the items show as unchecked in
the software sources application. So I'm guessing the problem lies
somewhere in the UI and not the sources list.

proposed so I installed it. Synaptic reports this as 2.6.35-27.48. This
problem still exists, and the digital output continues to only go
through the HDMI output if IEC958 is set as the output.

that the "universal" proxy settings don't seem to apply to very many

The files work better now than they did before; for example they are now
showing the proper run time of a file when played back in totem or VLC.

I had some time where I was doing a reinstall where I tried an Alpha
release just to see if this problem was fixed... I think it was Alpha 4.
I still had the problem then, but I haven't tried any of the later
versions.

The only workaround I know of is to use an application that doesn't rely
on gstreamer for the encoding. The "abcde" program that some have
mentioned uses the plain faac I think, so it isn't affected by this; I
haven't tried it myself. Rhythmbox still tries its transcoding weirdness
when iPod syncin

I noticed from the old documentation that there was a gstreamer0.8-faac
package required in addition to the gstreamer0.8-ffmpeg. I looked
through the repositories to see if there were equivalents to these for
gstreamer0.10 and saw a gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg bu
I'm also having this problem. Oddly it seemed to transcode my AAC
files... to AAC format. The files were previously ripped with iTunes.
They play without issue but if I use Rhythmbox to put music on the iPod
(a 4th gen greyscale 20gb, firmware 3.1.1) and then try accessing the
