My machine works fine with a ~/.gktrc-2.0 file, but emacs will not open
with a .gtkrc-2.0-kde4 file. But otherwise the symptoms are identical.

I am not seeing the issue with KDE 4 on Kubuntu 9.10. I started up both
konsole and konqueror both ways and they appeared identical.

I do not know. It was still broken until 8.10 came out. 8.10 worked
with my printer, so I upgraded all my computers. 8.04 was not working
up to then, but I upgraded everything shortly after 8.10 was released.

A little more info: If I send a test page, after a long time I can see
the job with an error message in the KDE print manager. If I right
click and get the IPP job report I see Can't print page 1 header
listed in it. I don't know what that means, but it appears to me to be
significant.

I upgraded my dual athlon x86_64 system when Hardy first came out.
Shortly after I noticed that my printer would no longer work. I don't
print much, and the few times I needed to print I used my other system.
I figuered it was a problem with the 64 bit release, maybe.

There are several issues.
1) The main problem is that Amarok claims to know how to enable MP3's, but
after it executes the required apt-get command it still can't play them. There
is some magic combination of debs to install and then it works, but no one can
agree on what those debs are.
2)
I disagree that I shouldn't have to run code from universe to play
MP3s. is a non-bug. If you look at my solution, it had nothing to do
with universe. In fact, I don't believe that universe is supposed to
ship MP3 playing software, either, for the exact same patent reasons. I
thought that

Okay, I found how I fixed the large font issue. In my kdmrc file i
told the server I had a ridiculously small dpi. Here's the line:
ServerCmd=/usr/bin/X -br -dpi 40
Even though I have a about 100 DPI screen and have specified the screen

terminal once X is started. When I try to change VTs, I get yellow bars
of garbage across the screen. I can get back to X, but I can't see the

Oh yes, another point. The fonts are really huge using the ati server.
By really huge I mean 2-3 inches tall, say 6 cm. Other things are
messed up. Menu bars tend to take over the entire screen. Dialog boxes
are 3 screens wide, etc. It is essentially unusable.

Removing the koffice-latest repository did get me past this problem.
The error message should at the least suggest that as a solution. Even
better would be to offer to exclude the repository without an upgrade
repository.

More data: It isn't logging in that causes it for me, but starting
kpilot. If kpilot doesn't start, kacpid doesn't start using all my CPU.
If kpilot starts, then kacpid uses all my CPU.

For me it is kacpid that is a runaway using 95% of a cpu and
kacpi_notify uses only 5%. It seems to happen even if I don't run
anything CPU intensive--just loggign in to KDE starts it. I guess I
should try logging in to a console and see what happens.
