Today I tested the newest version in proposed. The problem seems largely
fixed, but not quite.
When I check the system load caused by gnome-system-monitor using the
command "top" in the terminal, the CPU load is almost imperceptible.
That's good.
But when I check the system load by double-clickin

I have found a perhaps better solution, at least for 32-bit-Ubuntu.
The thing is, that Sun Java JRE is no longer in ubuntu-restricted-
extras. It has been replaced by OpenJDK and the Icedtea plugin. But
those don't work as well as Sun Java.
These are the steps I followed:
1. I installed ubuntu-r
I forgot to add: upstream has already fixed the intel driver for this
particular bug. So all you have to do is use the new driver.

Public bug reported:
OpenJDK doesn't work as good as Sun Java JRE. For example, I can't play
chess on Yahoo Games with OpenJDK and the Icedtea plugin.
I had to completely remove OpenJDK (and Icedtea plugin) and install Sun
Java JRE and plugin. Now everything works fine again.
Please put Sun Java
Also confirmed with a clean installation of Hardy Release Candidate.
I hope this will be fixed in time for the final release.
