i say its critical... i mean c'mon the nv driver is junk... it looks awful
versus the digital vibrance and other features in the nvidia driver... and
this affects so many nvidia users... why ship a product with crippled support

I am writing this from yesterday 3/30 daily build cd for feisty but when i try
to open restricted-manager it says no restricted drivers needed or something
very similar to that. Off of my HD install restricted-manger opens because i
have vmware modules installed... and the nvidia card is

updated restricted-manager to 0.17 today to no avail... still no nvidia in
manager , and issuing it it xorg.cobf x refuses to start: no screens found
when i first installed the beta restricted-manager worked and
it impossible for me to use the nvidia after a kernel upgrade, but alas it
seems its a bane of being undder development eh :-)

well ldconfig isn't working at all. i can't understand whats going on, i
havent made any chages except letting update-manager do its thing twice

applied all updates this morn (3/1), compiiz still does not work properly... it
will start via compiz --replace but utimately must be closed and metacity
restarted to gain usability with compiz the windows are often misdrawn w/
weird distortions of the wobble effect, and lots of horizontal

well i had similar errors on console when manually issuing a compiz or
compiz.real --replace as Johan says he has. I actually got compiz up using the
desktop-effects control panel but i got partial effects (windows wobbled) but
the cpu usage was very high, and there were lots of visual

desktop-effects version: 0.7.0-0ubuntu1

Thom is right dropping support of older cards in order to support new ones is
stupid for a couple of reasons:
1. The people most impacted will of course be current users with cards that
have older firmware... suddenly Ubuntu will no longer natively support their
bcm43xx chipset w/ old firmware

im finding ndiswrapper + the 64bit driver linked to at linuxuant to be my
best alternative. im disappointed i cant use the better native bcm43xx
driver.

i tried update-initramfs -u as someone reccomended in the 81413 comments,
it seems to have brought back my usplash shutdown sequence, but not
bootup... i will keep an eye peeled for this new usplash upload.
