Thanks to poster before, I was able to fix the issue.
My steps:
1) change recovery mode command line in GRUB from "ro single" to "rw break=init"
2) chroot /root /bin/bash
3) dhclient (to get IP/network configuration)
4) apt-get up
hmm, reinstalled all the samba packages and now it works... oh well!

I think this is a very important fix.
Automatic opening of chat windows should at least be optional. In fact I
like Taavi S.'s idea best (to open automatically when you are available,
and to use the blinking tray icon behaviour when you are busy etc).

Sorry to double post, but here is a proper backtrace from the nautilus-
dbg package.
(I noticed Sam was having a little trouble with it. The trick is to use
the bt command before killing the program. Since nautilus hangs, I had
to use ctrl+c (SIGINTERRUPT) in order to do a bt. =])

Have had lots of problems after updating to latest kernal (15) in Hardy
- before that (12?) it was very stable. Also the menu option "Other"
has disappeared and will not re-introduce itself even when ticked in
System>Preference>Menu - which stops me adjusting screen resolution
higher than 800X600.

Similar problem here using ati M6 card on a thinkpad x30.
System locks up totally after 10-40 minutes of use, no visible errors,
only started when I upgraded to dapper-release (earlier releases of
dapper were fine).
A solution to this one would be great!
