Correction to my previous post. I HAVE to switch from 4.1 to 5.1 or 5.1
to 4.1 on reboot to make the change take effect. Either 5.1 or 4.1 work
after that.

Just and FYI that this bug also affects the N56DP (AMD version of the
N56) and the #1 fix in the first post does fix the problem for me as
long as I use surround 4.1 as 5.1 does not work.

Note that the upstream kernel makes my laptop run at 95C while at idle,
so I have to revert to the -39 kernel to get a useful machine. If you
need me to run any of the reporting tools others have run I'd be glad to
help work on getting this fixed.

Also now that I think about it, this isn't a wireless issue, it's a
general networking issue that affects all networking profiles, wired and
wireless alike. So, if possible could someone change the title of this
bug and make sure it's looked at as a general networking issue, not just
wireless.

So, is this technically a Gnome issue and not an Ubuntu issue? I'd
really like to see this fixed as I use multiple profiles to get work
done quickly. Having to edit one profile over and over to change DNS
servers or IPs or whatever is a huge pain the butt. Suddenly it's like

OK, nevermind, it seems my new wireless router started acting up

It would appear from reading that thread on the lkml that the temporary
fix is to set a boot option of NO_HZ=y. I no longer have my 8.04.01
machine to test this on, but might be able to set it up dual boot some
weekend to play.
