driver. So it seems the installation did not alter my xorg.conf.
Also the last few days (that I got X working with this "ati" driver) I

Just tried "sudo aticonfig --initial" which showed an error about a missing
fglrx-glx.so,
but did create a new /etc/X11/xorg.conf although a "sudo restart gdm" still
failed.
Then changed in this new /etc/X11/xorg.conf the driver "fglrx" into "ati" and
now "sudo restart gdm" starts X.

Just wanted to comment I also experienced this: install theme, delete,
re-install and error message:
"Can't move directory over directory"
So to re-install I had to delete it myself, but as I did not know where the
themes were stored I had to search it first

The motherboard is a "elitegroup 945GCT-D", with build-in Intel atom CPU and
network controller.

Opening a youtube movie in firefox runs fine until I maximize firefox.
Then the screen goes blank and the gdm login window appears.

1. open any site with an embedded flash video in firefox
