I installed Linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic, and removed the model
setting in modprobe.d/alsa.conf, and rebooted. Stil the mic is not working. The

To get an external mic, and the laptop sound working I had to add model
=targa-dig to the snd-hda-intel line in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.cfg
If I remember correctly the headphone worked out of the box.

The speakers and headphone work properly when adding this to
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and reboot:

The alpha2 release of Hardy seems to experience the same problem. It

I tested it on an actual installation. About 1/3 of the times I try, it doesn't
crash during startup. This computer has a dual boot with windows XP now. XP and
windows 2000 work properly. I did the install using the alternate cd.

I have tweaked my Xubuntu 7:04 quite a lot. I have a tweaked kernel so my sound
works after hibernating, special settings to make my network funtion after
hibernate, and some more stuf. I decided not to upgrade to 7.10 for this
reason, I need a stable system. My harddisk doesn't
In Feisty I now have the following /etc/netwokt/interfaces, it is made
by using the networiking application in xubuntu, and this works just
fine:

I have not upgraded to gutsy. When I can get my hands on SPSS for linux,

I should have mentioned before that I am using the openoffice.org-gtk
package, maybe that has something to do with this problem. I have
recently installed a clean version of xubuntu 7.04, and installed the
complete openoffice package from synaptics. Then manually added the
openoffice.org-gtk
After a new install of Feisty hibernate worked properly except for the
wireless connection and sound. Both these have been solved. The sound by
installing another kernel. The wireless by modifying /etc/default/acpi-
support.
kernel:
as Dell drivers
for these specific printers because they are the best drivers available.
This could apply to other brands of printers too, I am not sure about
that, but it would definitely improve the user friendliness.

The letter r in openoffice userinterface is disformed if the system user
interface letter type is set to Sans 12. Sans 11, and Sans 13 look normal. If
the antialiasing in OOo is not selected it looks not better but normal for
letters

Some words in the UI of OpenOffice are almost unreadable. It is a
strange problem because the rest of the UI may look as it should. For
example. a UI has three entries:
Left
Right
Center
Then the word Right may be almost unreadable

When I open a new document in Ooo writer, the default font is Times. If
then I choose the menu entry: Format | Character there is a selection
field for font alternatives which is empty. The Times font is not
installed on my computer. If
