I'm happy to note the resolution oif my 2006 bug report by noting that
the release in question is no longer supported. It does raise the
question as to whether it ever was.

Removing the canonical.com archive solved the problem. I'm afraid
that these files probably result from my (mostly) successful second
attempt to upgrade after removing canonical.

Thank you for your decisive action in resolving this bug, only 18
months after my original report. It certainly inspires confidence in
the process.

The latest stable release of Kubuntu (Gutsy) is using libarts
1.5.8-0ubuntu1, and Dapper is using an earlier version so this problem
was specific to Kubuntu Edgy. Unfortunately, or perhaps, fortunately,
I no longer use Edgy on any of my machines.

Quite frankly, at this point in time, I have no idea. If you mean
which program was I using to perform the upgrade, it would have been
either apt-get for a dist upgrade or synaptic for a daily check of
"installed upgradeable". If you mean which program that I use had
arts as a dependency, I quote
on
KubuntuForums.net.

Hope this helps,

I am still using Dapper on my laptop (in order to provide Long Term

around the bug by reinstalling from scratch with the "Desktop" iso.
So, I have no idea whether the bug persisted or not. BTW, Did I
