I understand that, but the way Aptitude has always worked for me before,
if I installed a metapackage with it, I could uninstall everything I
installed by uninstalling the metapackage. Apt-get and other package
managers don't work that way, but Aptitude does (thus the reason I
prefer to use it).

with other apps as well (KMahjongg-kde4 for example); I guess I didn't

I cannot seem to open the KDE4 version of Kate as root (the KDE3 version
works fine). Before KDE 4.0.1 was released, running 'sudo kate-kde4',
'kdesu kate-kde4', and 'kdesudo kate-kde4' would prompt me for a
password, and then do nothing (Kate wouldn't open). Now, running 'kate'
as a normal user
I still receive this error when I open a document with Kate-kde4 from a
file browser, and close it. I opens fine - no errors - but when I exit
Kate, this message pops up. It used to do the same thing whenever I
opened a picture with Gwenview-kde4, but that seems to have been fixed

Yes, I have compositing enabled; I'm currently using the 169.07 Nvidia
driver, installed with Envy, on an Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GS video card.
I do have desktop effects enabled, but transparency is disabled.
