oops. I screwed things up. I added the interfaces to /etc/network.interfaces. When I removed them, I reverted back to my old behavior, except that ethernet worked on boot. nm-applet reappears. But when I unplug eth0 and connect to the wireles, /etc/resolv.conf is blank again I am rerunning app
