Mine has a usb3.1 with an adaptor providing another HDMI and a VGA port.
They all work the same, ie hardly!, so if say don't rush out and spend
cash!

Also, more data for you: I've noted that while booting from a USB stick,
if I boot using UEFI then this occurs, but if I boot in legacy bios mode

it's not an upgrade that's broken it.
I installed linux-image-4.6.0-040600rc4-generic, ran Gnome-Shell and
plugged in the external monitor, while watching syslog.

I have my camera (Canon D700) configured to record RAW+JPG files. So
this generates, say, IMG_1234.CR2 and IMG_1234.JPG.
However when importing these to Shotwell it goes and creates
IMG_1234_embedded.jpg as well.
This is not needed and wastes disk space and slows down
OK so it might NOT be gnome-related. I've had a few of these crashes
using Unity now. Attached is syslog that I was able to get after
connecting an HDMI monitor via the external Dell usb-3.1 adaptor which
exposes an HDMI port.
Luckily ? while this did crash it didn't kill the machine, so I got

I have a 4K UHD laptop screen and am running Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 Beta1
using 4.4.0-13-generic and the Nouveau drivers.
If I plug in an external HDMI monitor (FHD) either into either HDMI port
(there's one on the machine and there's one available via a usb 3.1
extra adaptor)
Please note that because my system is unresponsive WITH this package
installed, I had to run apport-bug when they were NOT installed, so some

That said, using that kernel, I've had times when it's locked up -
acting like I have no network connection but not saying disconnected.
turning wifi off and on again (via network manager) brought it back
again. Couuld be coincidence, but never needed to do this before.

Why is this bug marked fixed for Precise? And how can this bug be
fixed for Quantal which is not LTS? The point of the bug title is that
LTS is the one that this bug refers to because over 5 years the kernels
will really accumulate.
So I don't see how it can be fixed until it's fixed such that
Installed linux-crashdump. Test with AltGr+SysRq+C. Crashes. Hangs with
no disk activity 5+minutes. Does not reboot. Nothing in /var/crash,
nothing apparently unusual in /var/log/kern.log I'll assume that linux-
crashdump is crashing and ignore that - install linux-crashdump-
crashdump? ;-)

In case it's helpful, here's a screenshot of the panic from
/var/log/syslog (never gets written to disk), after doing a test crash

With a memory card plugged in Nautilus gives me the view shown in
screenshot attached. I can't read the text because it's offset and
cropped.
(Actually I find these ribbons annoying anyway, and would like to
disable, but suspect that's not a bug).

The problem is intermittent; one boot it works, one boot it hangs. I
don't think I could conclusively test that. I've attached a photo of the
kernel errors that come up.

host, but basically something's up and it will never display the page.
Hit refresh as much as you like, very rarely will this work. Restart the
