I've managed to get things working, here is what I've done:
First I've created a file, 90-force-crt.conf in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d with
the following content:

I've figured out (by looking through the xorg.0.log) that there's a
config directory: /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ where I can put config
snippets, so this bug report in the present form is invalid, as there is
a way to configure X besides the autogenerated xorg.conf.

add and set 1600x900 mode to the virtual crt screen at login, so it
matches the resolution of my laptop's screen.

The command "i8kfan 0 2" returns "-1 2" causes a lag for me.
Running i8kfan with any combinations of -1,0 and 0,1,2 causes the lag for me,
but simply running i8kfan does not.
This leads me to believe, that lag happens when i8kfan writes the fan speed
control file.

The laptop has hybrid graphics: an intel (sandybrindge) and an nvidia (525m),
which is optimus powered.
The built-in screen is wired to the intel card, while the HDMI port is rigged
to the nvidia card.

This bug seems partially fixed by today's update, which included kde-workspace
and kdebase.
The only problem is, that kubuntu now sees the 2 displays as one (panels run
along both displays instead of one and the desktop area is a rectangle, wich is
wrong, because i have 2 different sized display
Upgraded everything, nothing's changed.

I've logged in a tty to run gdb, the problem is I can't redirect the output of
ksmserver to a file.
I've tried gdb ksmserver, then run 2>&1 > output.txt, but it only outputs a few

Unforrunately lsmod | grep rts returns nothing, my card reader must be some
other brand.
And since the firmware update of the USB 3.0 controller, usb 2.0 devices don't
disconnect anymore. I ran some heavy IO activity on them, but they handled it
ok.

Just got into some testing and USB 2.0 devices work fine everywhere(tested with
md5sum on large archives), but usb 3.0 will cause USB 3.0 ports to loose power
until reboot (Just to be sure i borrowed an usb 3.0 stick, which caused the
ports to freeze immediately).

I didn't file the bug, I've got a different dock. The thing is, that it works
fine if plugged into usb 2.0 ports (even on linux), so it shouldn't be a
hardware defect.
Even if it is, the same happens when plugging my kingston pendrive into the usb

Upgraded firmware didn't fix the issue.
Anyway, this is the integrated chipset in my Dell N7110, so trying another is a
no-go.
