By way of additional testing I did a clean install of Lubuntu 14.04. It would not boot after the install. I then booted the PC from the Debian Wheezy live DVD. I then installed grub2 from Debian to the Lubuntu hard drive. It will now boot Lubuntu. I did observe during the Lubutu boot process
