After upgrading from 9.10 (Karmic) to 10.04 (Lucid), since KDE was not working, I booted into GNOME and checked the hardware drivers installed on my system System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers There it showed that I had both Nvidia version 173 installed and Nvidia version 195 installed. V

I was running Kubuntu 9.10 without issues. I upgraded to Lucid 10.04 using the update manager. After the update was completed, I could no longer log into the system using KDE. I too have this problem, I receive the following error in Xorg.0.log file: (EE) NVIDIA(0): SLI lock timeout exceeded (type 1) I am running kernel 2.6.31-15 on Karmic using kdm using KDE 4.3.2 using nvidia driver 185.18.36 2xNvidia 9800 GTX cards in SLI configuration rebooting sometimes fixes it.
