After upgrading from 9.10 (Karmic) to 10.04 (Lucid), since KDE was not working,
I booted into GNOME and checked the hardware drivers installed on my system
System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers
There it showed that I had both Nvidia version 173 installed and Nvidia
version 195 installed. V

I have similar situation as described in this bug, was running on nvidia
version 173 and the dist-upgrade installed 195.36.15, it appears that
the linkages did not all move from 173 version to 195. If
I was running Kubuntu 9.10 without issues. I upgraded to Lucid 10.04
using the update manager. After the update was completed, I could no
longer log into the system using KDE. I can login via GNOME without
issue. When I try to login to KDE, the Oxygen panel displays, I see the
disk icon then it bou
I was able to fix this in Kubuntu. Here are the steps I performed:
1) Opened System Settings
2) Clicked Appearance
3) Clicked on Fonts
4) Under Force Fonts DPI, I selected 96 and clicked Apply.

I too have this problem, I receive the following error in Xorg.0.log file:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): SLI lock timeout exceeded (type 1)
I am running kernel 2.6.31-15 on Karmic
using kdm
using KDE 4.3.2
using nvidia driver 185.18.36
2xNvidia 9800 GTX cards in SLI configuration
rebooting sometimes fixes it.
Removing ~/.local/share/mime/mime.cache solved the problem for me as
well.

Till Kamppeter, thanks for the suggestion, it helped but my printer
still will not fax. Error code 3002 means no dial tone or no answer. I
can confirm that the fax is not going "off hook" to obtain dial tone.
The driver waits, then produces error 3002. If I go to the printer/fax
and manually dial a
I have HP Officejet L7580 network based printer. I am having the same
problem as above, but my printer is not USB connected but printer
connected. The hp-setup program could not find the FAX ppd as indicated
above. I did find a file called:
/usr/share/ppd/hplip/HP/HP-Fax2-hpijs.ppd.gz
