Update: The problem happens again, regularly.
- The symptoms disappeared after Apr 9, after updating from
linux-image-3.11.0-19-generic to linux-image-3.11.0-20-generic (still Ubuntu
13.10).
- then, I had more than 4 months without problems
- Now, on Aug 27 it happened the first time again, now
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60
days.]

It may be marked as expired, I'm fairly confident this bug has been
giving me grief for about a year. I've temporarily removed the HVR-1300
from my system to diagnose yet another bug, but still have some syslog
notifications from a boot within the past 48 hours on a Kubuntu 13.04
system w/ KDE 4.10

Some news: I wasn't able to finally find out which driver is responsible
for this problem. Especially upstart makes it extremely compilicated.
What I found out: the problem most often occours when cold-booting my
pc. I assume, once some firmware parts are loaded, also normal boots
work. In other wo
maybe it is another module. after 3 days without any freeze with
"modprobe.blacklist=cx88xx" I was again not able to boot my system
today. I wish there were debugging options in upstart: 1) more debug
output on screen and 2) an option to serialize the start of all
services, so that I have a chance

It is not as good as I thought first: the kernel does not freeze anymore. but 2
of 3 times, the module doesn't initialize properly with
3.5.0-030500rc3-generic. There are some dmesg (full log attached):

After upgrading to ubuntu 12.08 (with its 3.2.x kernel), I was not able to
boot anymore without at least one of those kernel parameters:
nolapic
nosmp
maxcpus=1
nr_cpus=1
Obviously, reducing an SMP maching
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.5kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the
linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.
Once you've tested the upstream
